Newsletter.

Medical Therapies.

Currently, the only cures for this disease is stem cell therapy or bone marrow transplant. However, the significant risks involved limit the use of them. Despite the limited treatments for it, there are medications to treat its symptoms. There are currently new  developments to the new treatments for the disease. Learn more about them by clicking on the button on the right.

Legislation.

The US House of Representatives voted on the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) spending bill, an amendment will be included for $2 million in dedicated funding for the SCD data collection program at CDC. Read more about this spending bill, its benefits for the sickle cell community.

SCAA Blood Drives.

Red Cross has partnered with SCAASF to assist in their continued work to diversify the blood donor list for all of their blood drives. It was agreed that a greater awareness on the importance of giving blood from other cultures needs to be the focus.

KMJ Warrior Fitness Day.

Join us for some healthy exercise and a chance to connect with other SCD clients, families, advocates, and health care workers.

KMJ Warrior Walk Oakland & SF.

Join us in our annual walk to bring awareness to the community about the sickle cell disease. There will be food, entertainment and stimulating conversation. Be there to support our clients and be an advocate.
