World Sickle Cell Day.

The World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is officially observed and recognized by the United Nations on June 19th every year. The goal of this international awareness day is observed annually to increase the public knowledge and comprehension of the disease and the obstacles patients of the disease have to experience, along with their family and caregivers. This day was recognized by a resolution in 2008 at the United Nations General Assembly that aims to acknowledge the sickle cell disease as a public health issue and as "one of the world's foremost genetic diseases". This resolution calls for its members to raise awareness about the sickle cell disease at a national and international level every year on June 19th.
